BRLC8.65, +0.39, +4.7%) shares rose 20% to $7.52 in after-hours trading Thursday. After the bell, the Tempe, Ariz.-based maker of high-definition televisions swung to first-quarter net profit of $3.8 million, or 7 cents a share, boosted by strong sales. In the same period last year, the company posted a net loss of $658,000, or 2 cents a share. Revenue more than tripled, rising to $87 million from $27.4 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected per-share earnings of 1 cent, on revenue of $75.3 million. The company expects second-quarter revenue of $160 million to $170 million, excluding Vivitar operations, and of $178 million to $190 million including them. For 2007, Syntax-Brillian sees revenue of $490 million to $520 million excluding Vivitar, and of $565 million to $605 million including it.
